today is my birthday! so I'm going to talk about some sewing I want to do in the next year for myself.

i've been down with the whole capsule wardrobe thing for years: buy high quality classic stuff you know looks good on you then spend your mental energy thinking about other things.

i'm going to start with a basic pattern to practice and improve by knit sewing technique, and who better to practice and improve with than the good folks at oliver + s?

I know this pattern will be well drafted with excellent instructions, so it will be really important to buy the right fabric (study enough to sew without losing my mind, but thin enough to be comfortable).

i'll start with solid knits in basic colors (white, black, grey, navy). once i've gotten my technique down I'll might move to patterned prints, but knowing me I'll probably just keep it simple.

i don't expect this to be a huge challenge sewing as:

the pattern is from the good folks at oliver + s and their patterns are excellently drafted and have the amazing instructions
i've gotten pretty good at plackets and cuffs from sewing their sketchbook shirt for lil' man flannels (here, here, and here).

i'm thinking i'll initially start with a chambray version like this:

but then i was thinking a plaid version might be fun, probably green because that is my favorite color.

a few months ago I bought myself a cashmere cardigan in a similar cut and I love it. naturally I've decided I must learn to make something similar, and the lark cardigan variation pattern from grainline studio looks perfect.
